Summer is here, and that means it's time to break out the ice. Cold drinks and pool side lounges are definitely in your future. But regular old ice, isn't that a bit boring? I've found another use for my ice cube trays that have become a big hit with my son and his neighborhood friends. Best part? It's cheap and easy and low calorie.

Simply fill your ice cube trays with your favorite flavored beverage or juice. I love using tropical flavored punches and then simple juices like pineapple or orange.

Cover the ice cube tray with plastic wrap tightly. Insert a toothpick into each cube. Place in the freezer and let freeze completely.

Once frozen, remove plastic wrap and each cube comes out easily with it's own hand (the toothpick). Serve to kids as a quick, refreshing snack. And you don't have to worry about added sugar or calories, because you know what is going in to each and every Popsicle.

Moms, what other uses have you found for your ice cube trays?

I've frozen leftover chicken broth in them to add to hot bowls of soup later...enough to cool them off to eat.

We have an ice maker so none of mine have water in them. I freeze tea, koolaid, sprite, and juice so whatever your drinking you can add something cold to it that won't water down your drink.

I did the baby food when my boys were young. I've made Popsicles, although those are usually in separate containers.

My DD's love to use them for really small toys and earrings.

When I had babies, I'd make baby food and freeze it in ice cube trays.

Good ideas!  I've never used them for anything other than ice.
