Food Processor Short Cuts Part 1 – Nut Butters
For the longest time, I resisted getting a food processor. I thought, how could I possibly get another kitchen contraption and when and where would I use it? As it turns out, buying one was one of the best decisions I've made in a while! Not only was it fairly inexpensive, but it has served so many surprise purposes in my kitchen.
For instance, I just learned how to make peanut butter in my food processor. And this is a very good thing because the cost of peanut butter (a huge staple in our house) has significantly gone up. Making it from scratch at home is not only healthier but also a lot less expensive. It's a win, win for us.
Making any nut butter is pretty simple. Buy your favorite raw nuts and roast in the oven to bring out their full flavor. Toss in the food processor with a bit of sugar and salt, and then start blending away. The natural oils in the nuts will help blend everything together. So far I've made peanut and almond butter.
Moms, have you tried your luck at making homemade peanut butter? If so, how did it turn out?
