The Power of Wooden Cooking Utensils

There's no doubt that you have more than enough kitchen utensils in your drawers that are used for scraping, flipping, serving, sautéing and more. Go ahead and take a look. Are most of them plastic or metal? What about wooden? If you're among the many who haven't added wooden kitchen utensils to your cooking arsenal, it's time to get a hold of a few of these very versatile tools.

Here are a few of their perks:

They are extremely durable, and can even last for generations

They don't scratch pans whether they are Teflon, stainless steel or cast iron

They won't change the taste of acidic foods, like medal tools sometimes do

You will need to season your wooden utensils as you would a wooden cutting board, but that effort pays off in the long run.

Moms, what kind of utensils do you use in your kitchen - wooden, plastic, metal or other?

I love the wooden utensils!  I also have metal and durable plastic/rubber.

I use some of each actually.  I do love my wooden spoons for sauce and I have a wooden salad serving set.  My pasta spoon is plastic and I have some metal serving spoons that I really like.

I have no rubber ones. Have some metal ones, because I have never found a wooden spatula that's good for flipping certain things, like an over easy egg. But wooden is best and I use them whenever possible. Always look for them at tag sales, and when I travel overseas, I always go to local markets, where they often sell great ones. When I lived in China, there was a guy in the marketplace who made fantastic ones, right there in his stall. People thought I was nuts bringing them back, but the really good ones are addictive!
