I recently invested in a food scale, and let me tell you that it's been the best purchase I've made in a long time. I found it to be incredibly educational. For the longest time I just guessed about how much was a serving size of my favorite (and often calorie laden) foods. You'd be surprised how much a portion of rice or 5oz of steak really looks like.
The food scale has been essential in helping me stay on my current weight loss program. Not only that I now know what a healthy portion looks like and can often eye ball it when I'm out a restaurant and my food scale (obviously) is not available.
And don't think that you have to be on a diet to get full use out of this gadget. It's also an important tool for family members who might have food restrictive diets - like diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol. It takes the guessing game out of mealtime.
Moms, do you have a food scale, and if so how has it helped you?
