This sweet and spicy nut mix makes a great appetizer for guests before the holiday meal. You can also make an extra batch and keep it on hand as a healthy snack to keep from overindulging in high calorie treats this season.
2-3 cups of unsalted nuts (cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, etc)
1 egg white
3 tbsp real maple syrup
1/2 tsp cayenne
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp coarse sea salt
1 tbsp poppy seeds
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a bowl, whisk the egg white until foamy and then stir in the maple syrup, cayenne, salt, pepper and poppy seeds. Add in the nuts and toss by hand until all of the nuts are coated.
Pour the nut mixture onto the parchment paper and bake for 20-30 minutes until the nuts are browned. Remove from the oven and allow to cool before serving.
