I'm a big believer in marking the big occasions, but also the little ones -- and the most delicious way to do that is with a treat! When someone in our family finishes a big deadline, hits a milestone, accomplishes something or just generally needs a pick-me-up, we'll do something out of the ordinary to celebrate it.
But sometimes you get in a rut and realize it's been awhile since you have had fun. That's when it's time to look up weird "holidays" and find a creative way to celebrate!
For example, June is Iced Tea Month. Sounds perfect to me...almost nothing tastes so refreshing on a warm summer afternoon! Brew up a pitcher of caffeine free tea (rooibos is a favorite). Let your kids garnish with fruit on toothpicks, mint leaves, maybe even drink umbrellas, and kick back on your patio or porch and enjoy.
Today, June 20th, is Flip-Flop Day. Let those tootsies out, and make up a batch of flip-flop cookies!
June 25th is catfish day. If you can find some at your grocery store, fry it up ... its earthy taste isn't for everyone, but if you like it, you really like it.
And finally, here's one any parent who has been hearing lots of "I'm boooorrreddd!" and breaking up lots of sibling fights can identify with: June 30th is "Please Take My Children To Work" day.
Do you celebrate any offbeat "holidays"?
