My husband and son are going out of town for a 'guy trip' and some fun together this weekend- I'll be home with 5 girls (my kids and nieces)- I'm trying to come up with some fun things we can do together- anyone have any ideas?  My nieces are from out of town, so I'd really like them to enjoy themselves!  The girls range in age from 13 to 1, so kinda a big age gap!

You can do mani/pedis and do their hair up at home.

I was definately going to say the mani/pedi and hair...a pajama party with movies and tons of unhealthy snacks! Maybe camp out in the living room too! Girls love baking and making crafts!

Mani and pedis! I would also get some stuff to make your own pizzas. Umm what about a fat girl movie night!? Get their favorites movies and favorite snack foods. You could play German spotlight tag when it gets dark with the older ones.

a tea party, play dress up, comb each others hair, you can do many and pedis, cook something easy or maybe bake some cookies.

                   Treasure Jar

 Treasure Jar
Total Time Needed:
2-3 Hours

Nancy Morrison of Enfield, Connecticut, needed a boredom cure-all for a two-hour road trip with her kids, Elizabeth, age nine, and Erik, four. Her brainstorm: create a bottled version of the game I spy.

  Materials

  • 15 to 20 small items such as a paper clip, a seashell, a shiny bead, or a googly eye
  • Clear plastic jar with the label removed (we used a peanut butter jar)
  • Pen, paper, and scissors
  • Mixed birdseed (we used about 1 cup)
  • Clear packing tape

I nstructions

    • Let your child gather a handful of tiny "treasures" from around the house.

    • Trace the lid of the jar onto paper and cut out that circle. On it, list all of the items your child's collected so players will know what to look for. (Or, print the list from your computer.)

    • Pour about an inch of birdseed into the jar, then drop in 3 or 4 of the small items. Add some more birdseed, then more treasures, and so on until you're within an inch of the top. Leave that final space empty so the contents will have room to move around when shaken. Screw on the lid.

    • Tape the list of items to the lid and seal the jar shut with more tape. Give it a good shake, then see what you can find.

Telling stories you can tell them stories about you when you were their age. Maybe a crush you had or an embarrasing moment. That will help you connect with them and they can have some laughs . My girls love it when I tell them my stories.
