I just usually say thank you.  I don't handle them well.  My mom wasn't one who believed in giving compliments often so I grew up not really know how to handle a compliment.  I make sure I compliment my kids many times a day.

By saying..." you think so? Well thank you. Thats so sweet ".  Whether you agree with it not is not in question.  I don't take compliments well at all. But I have learned that by taking the compliment the way its intended, it helps the person who is giving the compliment, feel good too.

Why don't you take compliments well?

I just don't like the idea of compliments.

But I do like that you look at the intention of the person giving the compliment. I feel like I can't even go that far, though, because I'll never really know that intention.

I say thank you. And depending on who the compliment is from and what it is, I tend to blush/flush.

My 3 year old, however, takes them and says "I know.." haha

That's usually my response, too! That's why I don't really like compliments.

I don't take compliments well even now, but I am worlds better than I used to be.  It started when I was really little. When I was little, I am not sure what set me on this path but, I didn't feel like I was worthy of such wonderful words.  Not me. How?   I did grow out of it some as I grew older, but not by much. It wasn't until I met my husband, at age 23/24, that I have been able to see myself in a different light.  He has helped me grow in ways that I never even dreamed of.

When you know its a good compliment or a bad compliment, it comes from your gut reaction. The very first thought you have, without even having to think about it, is the correct thought. You will know without a doubt,  BUT,  you have to learn to trust those first thoughts. Implicitly. When you start doing this, you will know whether someone is truthfully speaking or falsely speaking.  You really have to want to believe that you are worth value. Find someone who has that belief in you and listen to them and get their counsel.  Its not easy but it is possible. I am here as a perfect example. If I can do it, anyone can!  : ) If you would like to know more, feel free to ask.  :)

Depends on what it is and who it's from. If it's someone I know and I know the intention behind it, I take them well. Thank you and all that. If I'm unsure, I just brush it off. If I know they're only saying something nice to get something from me I let them know I see through it.
