My youngest, Allora, and I went to the local fair while DH and my oldest were at Hershey Park.  Although I come from a family of farmers, my DH is a bit of a city guy so my girls do not know much when it comes to such activities.

Well my dear sweet brave girl decided to sign up for a tractor pull contest, where they pedal a tractor attached to a cart loaded with weights. When we went to sign up, she saw the trophies and was all excited!

"Yay! I'm going to get a trophy!"

"Allora, those go to the first place winner and this is your first time doing this, so don't be upset if you don't get one."

I think that went in one ear and out the other. LOL

She was in contest for ages 3-4. She was the only girl competing against two farm boys.

First Boy:14.5 ft

2nd Boy: 20ft

Now it is Allora's turn!

Allora peddled a whole 4.5 feet!  She was so excited! She got off and was jumping up and down screaming "I did it! I did it!"

But that ended real quick when she realized she would not get a trophy.  She had the biggest tears and was just so upset.  I picked her up and hugged her tight.

"Allora, have you ever peddled a tractor before?"

"No."

"Did you have fun while you were up there?"

"uh huh"

"Then that is all that matters.  What you did was very brave!  You went up there in front of all those people and competed against others at an activity that you NEVER did before!  That is amazing! Mommy is so proud of you!"

She sniffles a few more times.  Still looking a little sad, she asks if she can ride the merry-go-round and get a drink.

I really am so proud of her. Yes she lost, but she got up there and tried something new!  Today she inspired me! Sometimes daughters can teach their mothers too!
