I am currently obtaining my Bachelor's in Criminal Justice.  While in class this morning it hit me, I know what I would like to accomplish.  I would like to change a Law.  One that has been to the Supreme Court before.  I would like to challenge one part of the 1st Amendment.  Why would I do such a thing?  I strongly believe that under no circumstance should any type of funeral be protested.  Whether it be a Civilians or Military members funeral.  I believe it should be illegal to protest at funerals period.  The Law states as long as "fighting words" are not used, then it is perfectly legal.  IMO, that can be taken in multiple different ways.  If one of my family members were to pass, and while at the funeral there were protesters; I would go bat shit crazy on them.  This is aimed at one particular "organization".  One day, someone will lose their cool and then what?  To save a lot of trouble they just need to make protesting at funerals illegal.  Yeah, yeah it "takes away" their freedom of speech, well they can go spew all that BS on the streets, not at a funeral.

I hope this all made sense.  I am still looking into legalalities and past cases in relation to freedom of speech.  I do not plan to do anything at the moment.  I do however feel strongly about this.  Who knows, maybe I can make a change.  How would you feel about something like this taking place?  (the banning of protesting at funerals)

I would sign for it. We live near Chardon, OH where there was a school shooting this past Feb. and 3 boys were killed by a classmate & 2 oyhers were wounded (one not badly and the other was paralyzed), The WBC planned to come and protest and we had to form a chain of love to keep them from the family and friends of the 3 boys. They never showed but they drove by several times and our numbers kept them at bay. We should not have had to do that. They shouldn't have been allowed to be there.

I know the "organization" you're referring to and I couldn't agree with you more. One of these days they're gonna come across the RIGHT one on the WRONG day and all hell is gonna break loose. I'm ALL for making it illegal. Have some respect for not only the deceased but the grieving family they left behind. Sheesh. ^5!!!!!!!

I would sign it.  You know dh is retired military but I would sign for putting an end to all funeral protests.  A funeral is not the time for protests imo.

While I am all for that, I think its a bad can if worms to open. Where would it end? Would it truly end at just no protesting at funerals or will others take it further? You know the saying "give them an inch and they'll take a mile" that is my fear. What starts out good could end up scary.

I would not sign it. I think it is a dangerous and slippery slop to begin to take away any rights, no matter how good the "reason" behind it. I understand the frustration motivating the thought process, but I could not, in good conscience, sign such a petition.

I understand people not wanting to vote against certain rights but I am a firm believer that total respect needs to be given during a FUNERAL! Period.  The total disrespect shown to the families trying to grieve and bury loved ones needs to be stopped and their rights protected.  I won't budge on it and I won't discuss it further because I'm just a simple woman...yep, plain and simple.
