Party Games for doomsday
Let's put a little fun into the end of the world! Here are some great apocalyptic party games that you and all your guests can enjoy. Most are based off of classic party games, so feel free to come up with your own. If you have any ideas you'd like to pass on to us
End of Days Charades!
This is played just like the classic game of charades, but with an apocalyptic theme. Divide into two teams of three or more people. Each team should write down 10 or more items on individual scraps of paper that a member of the competing team will act out. These items should be in some way related to the apocalypse, Doomsday, the End of the World, or catastrophic events like natural disasters, nuclear war, and that sort of thing. You could also throw in disaster movies and apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic books, movies, and TV shows as well. Each team should put the scraps of paper with the ideas on them into a bowl (one bowl for each team). The first person on the first team will blindly pick a piece of paper from the other team's bowl and try to act it out for his team mates, who must guess what it is within an acceptable time limit (2 or 3 minutes is good). Success will score that team 1 point. Then the next person on the other team will go, blindly picking a piece of paper from the opposing team's bowl and trying to act it out. So on, and so forth, just like the classic game of charades.
Doomsday Drinking Game
You can make a drinking game out of just about anything--why not doomsday? If the apocalypse has not already begun, you can have a doomsday drinking game for a particularly exciting doomsday movie. For example, you could watch a zombie movie and take a drink every time a zombie say "braaaains...." or perhaps whenever someone gets bitten by a zombie. Alternatively, you could watch a diaster movie like The Core, Armageddon or any of the SyFy channel's made-for-TV disaster(ous) movies and take a drink every time you hear pseudo-science babble or a massive scientific inaccuracy -- you'll get plastered in no time! If doomsday has begun,
Pin the Tail on the Horseman
This is great to do after a few drinking games. Put one picture of each of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse on the wall (you could just put up rough sketches if you must). Make sure the wall is expendable (which it is, given that this is the end of the world and all that), or use several cork bulletin boards. Four people should be blindfolded and given a paper tail with a thumbtack. Each one should be told to pin the tail on a specific horseman, for example "John, pin the tail on Death" or "Sue, pin the tail on Pestilence", and so forth. Then spin the them around and let them have at it! You can aim them vaguely in the direction of their targets, or not. At least try to make sure the path in front of the contestants is clear. Once they have pinned the tail, scoring should be done--the closer they are to the target, the better. If they pinned the tail on the wrong horseman all together, they automatically lose.
It's Pictionary, but with a doomsday twist! Unfortunately, there is no end of the world Pictionary game set, so you will simply have to make it up. If you already have a Pictionary set, then great--just create new cards for each category with an apocalyptic theme. For example, under "Persons" you could have "Anti-Christ", "The Four Horsemen", or "Cthulhu"; under Objects you could have "Atomic Bomb", "Bomb Shelter", or "Genetically Engineered Virus"; under Actions you could have "Death by Radiation", "Asteroid Impact", or "The Rapture". Above all, be creative! If you do not have a Pictionary set, just wing it. No one will care
