Little Pigs ... it's a little BBQ joint about 2 blocks from where we live that has awesome barbecue and the BEST hush puppies!! And their tea ... OMG! I will stop by just to get a large tea during the summer. Their burgers ... wow! They make Wendy's Carolina Classic look sad, very very sad. OMG ... just driving by when they are smoking the pig makes your mouth water.
Dairy Queen ... I know it is technically a "chain" but this one is ONLY open in the summer. Only serves ice cream. It's a little locally owned spot. It's been a landmark since the 60s. The building is tiny but the people are wonderful and it just has fabulous service and CHEAP!!
ETA:
There's a little place in North Wilkesboro that serves AWESOME footlong hotdogs but I cannot remember the name because it has been YEARS since we were there. It's kind of like a Dairy Queen. It's just up the road from Duncan's Gun and Pawn. We would stop there when hubby had a repair call up in that area ... hell, one time we had a craving and drove up there to get them.
