girl talk...periods..AF, whatever you call it TMI

Posted by   + Show Post

I wanted to talk periods. I have always had heavy flows, that are out of control. I am on a pill. A different one that is not with estrogen, well, because of my age. But anyhow, so many friends have been telling me about these cups you use instead of tampons.

So, I finally found them. They are interesting. I got mine today, and the funny thing is AF is due any day. I was curious if anyone has ever used them.

My friend swears you bleed alot less than you think you do, plus that with these cups, you can have sex with them.

I know my initial response was oh yuck, no way

but I am going to give it a shot.

Plus another issue I have is that on a heavy day I can barely wear a tampon for 45 minutes, but supposedly with these cups, you can have 12 hours.

So, has anyone ever given these a shot?

 Wow!

Ya--I bled like a stuck pig for 10 months. It pretty much sucked. And it started all of a sudden, in the middle of the night, on vacation in Conway..do you know how many drug stores up there are open at 2am....none!!!

Yikes!
I have a fiberoid... :-/ it blocks my cervix almost completely. They were worried about it rupturing during pregnancy/ birth. Its what landed me at Dartmouth for my scheduled c section.

When I got my periods I have horrible heavy flows..if the cup was around I would have tried it.

11 years ago, I had fibroids. From August to May. The only thing that stopped the bleeding was putting my on a new BCP. In April, I bled reallllllly bad, my blood count feel super low. In that 10mo period, I had 4 D&C's. Finally in June I had a partial hys. So I've not had a period for 11 years.

Do NOT miss it. I feel for you with the heavy flows..that was me..and nasty, nasty cramps!!! From what the girls have said here, the cup sounds like a God-send! Hope it works for you!!

I've never tried it. It sounds messy and I think it would be slippery and I'd drop it in the toilet. Lol. I have a hard time putting things in and taking things out, the nuva ring makes me squeamish lol.

Update when you try it though, I wonder if it really does all it says it does. I've only heard about it on here but people have seemed to really like it on here.

1 mom liked this
It was scary. When we talked about how the csection could go- (I asked about dh being there/ skin to skin with ds) they said that he could be there, and they could help me hold ds, IF everything went ok. If it ruptured, dh would have been escorted out and I would have been gassed. :-/ so of course when my bp went up from anxiety they put an oxygyn mask on me and I PANICED before they said what it was hahaha!

There were a lot of unknowns. What it was attached to/etc. I refused an mri and xray because I didn't want it to hurt ds.

Above everything though- accepting the possibility of bleeding out was really quite freeing. Once I coped with it, my anxiety melted away (until the surgery started lol). I lived life a little differently during that time. Now I'm back to worrying myself sick over everything hahaha

I'd be afraid of leaking ... my periods are fairly light, except for the first full day. What did they cost? The IDEA sort of creeps me out, but the thought of not buying tampons every month is making me reconsider it. :)

mine was $40 I have only leaked 2x and that's because I wasn't paying attention to what I was dping

I dont feel it and I personally only have to rinse it morning when I get up and night before bed. Once you know how much you truely bleed you can figure out how often you have to rinse.

I used to have to wear tampon and pad a d now nothing I haven't bought anything in 2 years and its great!

I'm 56....and not really pleased about it.  I was on the pill because I had to use two "high duty" tampons at a time.  My doctor told me this would also make menopause easier.  So, now, I'm taking the lowest dose pill AND cutting them in half.  All is well until about day 10....and then I start spotting, heavily.  I think next month, I might just quit altogether and see what happens.

I have heard of the cups, but I'd not use one...the thought just kind of creeps me out...all that blood just being collected.  If it works for you, girl, go for it.

The Diva cup? I have been wanting to try them but haven't taken the plunge. I know a lot of ladies in Cuites with CLoth Booties with me here on CM swear by them and will never go back!
