Vice Presidential Debate

Posted by   + Show Post

I watched the Vice Presidential debate. I thought it was much more spirited than the Presidential debate. I also thought Vice President Joe Biden was the clear winner. I will be interested to hear what you ladies thought and what the general consensus will be all over the internet.

As I watched the live feed online there were comments constantly streaming alongside. It is amazing to be able to see commentary live while you are actually watching the debate. I don’t know how people type that fast though!

Overall I thought Biden’s experience in foreign affairs showed. He obviously knew what he
was talking about. I did not love his laughing at everything Ryan said though, that seemed a bit smug.

I thought the moderator was great. She maintained control, asked good questions, and required that her questions were answered. Did you like her?

She repeatedly questioned Ryan why he and Romney have refused to show any actual plans, to delineate exactly what cuts they would make and which loopholes would be closed. I wonder why they will not come forth with that, too. How do you feel about that?

On the abortion question, a quote from Twitter: “@dannysullivan Ryan: my faith guides everything. Biden: my faith is strong enough I don't have to impose it on those of other faiths.”

Did you watch the debate? Do you agree or disagree with my assessment? I welcome all thoughts and opinions.

No Obama had more time because Romney wouldnt stop interupting. I like how its okay for Romney to interupt and not Biden. Biden is a great VP and knows his shit unlike Ryan

Quoting britniwheeler:

Obama had more floor time than Romney. He had to interupt to have his chance to speak on the issues. He spoke considerably longer than Romney. Biden had one minute more of floor time. Look at the facts in greater detail, please.

Not 82 times? And Romney didn't laugh and guffaw as they were trying to discuss serious issues.

He smirked everytime Obama said something, and Ryan sounded like an idiot, its hard not to laugh. What do you mean not 82 times, everytime the moderator opened his mouth Romney decided he had something to say!

Hi,

I thought the debate was a tie.

Ryan did what he had to do for the republican base.Which was show a steady hand and leadership.

Biden did what he needed to do was to attack the Romney/Ryan ticket on their lies, clear the facts, fire up the democratic base and uplift and honor our president  who had a very bad first debate.

To some Biden came off rude, betittling, immature, and bullyish.Trust me.....he needed to do this to set the stage for Obama to now speak about the facts.

In the very first round Romney threw a tantrum and wanted to have the last word even though he was supposed to have the first and last word for the next round.  He chose to throw the rules out of the window.  He did not have to interrupt.  He chose to break the rules.

There is one link for you.  You can look into any of the fact checking sites.  They all have similar numbers.  Politifact, for example, has shown that Romney is lying to the point of their "pants on fire" rating 46% of the time.  And at any given moment he is determined to be 58% more likely to be lying than President Obama.  Clearly, it would be great if neither party lied, but that is not the case and I am not sure why you are so unwilling to accept that according to EVERY independent source, Romney is the candidate who is known for lying.

If you want to talk about records, look at the Republican-lead congress.  They have obstructed every step of the way.  That is what they swore to do in order to get elected and that is what they have done.  I don't know what type of moron would vote for someone running solely on obstructionism and getting someone else out of office, but apparently they exist out there.  The president can't pass a bill on his own.  That would be unconstitutional.  The Republicans are allowed to filibuster everything he presents.  And as long as folks like you continue not to look into facts or educate yourselves, it might work.

Although you brought it up without any thought just a regurgitated fake word, I will briefly discuss The Affordable Care Act.  (Really this should be an entirely separate post, but I will try to keep it brief as you apparently don't have a propensity for lengthy or thought-out explanations.)

http://www.cbo.gov/topics/health-care/affordable-care-act

That is a link to the Congressional Budget Office's cost estimate for the Affordable Care Act.  This is a bipartisan look at it.  And guess what:  It actually SAVES tax-payers $84 Billion (with a b).  So where is Obama's lie there?

In addition to it not being a lie, what kind of a heartless, uncompassionate monster are you that you would want underprivileged people to die because they do not have access to health care?  Hope you are not religious, because that would be a hard one to explain to any god.  You may want to ditch Rush Limbaugh and start reading actual reports regarding what is going on before you spout off more and prove just how ignorant you actually are.

Quoting mom2twinboyz:

Give me examples of these so called lies? Are you calling them lies just because the Obama administration deems them so?Romney stood up there and refuted these so called lies and told everyone why they are not. That is why he did so well in the debate becuase Obamas only game is to call someone liar. What about talking about his record instead? What has he done in4 years really? It wasnt creating jobsthat is for damn sure.

You mean the Obama asministration didntlie about Libya? That Obummercare wasn't going to raise your taxes? Come on who is doing the lying?

Quoting annelauer:

How could anyone be prepared to respond when every word out of Romney's mouth was a lie?  I know that the GOP has denounced facts and fact checks, but for Pete's sake, there is no way to not be surprised when Romney flip-flopped again on several issues, lied flat-out 29 times in 37 minutes, broke the rules of debate and continually spewed ridiculousness.  You really should turn off FOX and begin to think for yourself.  I know it's hard, but take it one step at a time and someday, you'll get there.

Quoting mom2twinboyz:

Well that is the way he looked to me. Obama was like a school boy being chastized and doesnt have a thought without his telepromter. "Eh a uh..a ..the uh a deficeit..a um grew a um 4 trillion under my eh watch I guess e aa I did eh a build that."

Quoting mom_to_travis:

"elder statesman"?!  OMFG!  Did you even watch the debate?

Quoting mom2twinboyz:

OMFG! are you kidding? Did you even watch the debates? There is no comparaison to how Romney handled himself vs Lieden. Romney spoke with concivtion while still respecting his opponent and conducted himself like an elder statesman and looked very much presidential. Biden came across as a 12 year old school yard bully. No class at all!!

You are delusional! I am heartless because I don't support socialized medicine? wtf? I don't want people to die while they are waiting months for the govt to decide/ or approve if they need a life saving medical procedures. Look people are not refused medical care in the US. You can walk into a hospital and be treated insurance or not don't be dramatic. I am not heartless because I don't think the govt needs to get involved in my medical care. I don't get libs the govt can make all their medical decisions but when it comes to the right to kill their babies by God the govt has to stay out of that one.

Once again, do some fact checking or actually look into the information.  There isn't a "death panel" that decides who gets coverage and for what.  That is a LIE and has been proven so.  The Affordable Care Act is not socialized medicine.  (Although it would be much better if it were.)  And people DO die because they cannot afford medical care.  I know someone who died of gangrene.  Easily treatable.  Couldn't afford to see a doctor.  She could walk in and see a doctor, but then she would be billed for the visit.  Imagine the financial implications of someone with cancer.  You should READ the Affordable Care Act rather than blather on about it when you don't know what you are talking about.  There is certainly nothing in it that dictates that the "government can make all of your medical decisions".

I would go on to explain socialism in more detail, but it is likely to either go over your head, or you will ignore it.  What you are complaining about is government regulation of insurance companies who are screwing people over because their only obligation is to make profits.  They are still for-profit (not socialized), but now they can't conduct some of the atrocities that they did in the past.  They can no longer kick you off of insurance once you become ill.  They cannot deny you coverage because of a preexisting condition thereby only insuring the healthy.  They cannot cut off care to a premature baby who is being hospitalized because he has already cost the lifetime cap.  How on earth do you feel that serves the people?  It does not.  It only serves the profits.

Once again, you have a hard time with staying on topic, but in regards to terminating pregnancy, it is a right that we have been awarded as US Citizens via the Supreme Court.  It's strange to me that Republicans claim to want the government to "stay out" of things, when what they appear to want is for the government to rescind rights.  I believe that people have a right to health care, clean water and air, to conduct their lives as they see fit as long as it is not negatively impacting the lives of others.  I think it is delusional to say that people who can't afford babies should be required to have babies, but that public assistance should not exist.  And then to claim that you care about the children or their rights.  Shouldn't they be fed?  Shouldn't they be allowed medical treatment?  Shouldn't they be allowed an education?  According to your party: No.  They only have the right to exist hungry, sick, and uneducated.  That is is epitome of cold-hearted.  It truly is tragic that part of mankind can think that way.

Please, do some soul-searching, some independent thinking.  No TV, no radio.  Figure out what your values truly are and then OBJECTIVELY look into how your political views line up with your values.  I can't imagine that there are many people out there who are truly as uncaring as the GOP policies would imply.  A few awful people have just found enough others who do are happier to listen to their lies than to research and think for themselves.  I would like to believe that you are not an uncompassionate person, just one who is momentarily a little misguided.  Good luck finding your way.

I watched most of it but fell asleep in the last half hour or so. I thought they both did well. At one point my husband said, geez. Well, I guess we know who SHOULD have been the actual president in this administration. I was thinking the same thing. I agree the smug laughing was out of place, and the interrupting made it difficult to hear either of them when things got a little heated. I figured Biden would do well. He has had years of experience. I think Ryan knew his stuff also. I have been trying to figure out why Ryan and Romney won't give specifics. The best conclusion I can come to given both of their answers is that they have a base plan, with room to work with both parties if they are elected, and that is what they intend to do. Makes sense considering the last 4 years when congress can't agree on anything, to take the tax plan to both parties and have them set the specifics, in order to get a plan that will be approved. I am not going to claim to know a whole lot of taxes, and code. Lol I am not sure many of us have a good grasp on that subject. I do know that I am not interested in giving any more money to an Administration that clearly refuses to spend wisely. It's like having an irresponsible teenager who thinks money grows on trees out back, and yet you keep giving them full access to a credit card you continue to pay off. Not real bright. I am looking forward to next weeks Presidential Debate. I think it is going to be a very good one.

Sounds perfectly reasonable.  The problem is that it is a mathematical impossibility without raising taxes on the middle class.

But if their plan is to work with Democrats, they should say it.

If the government isn't doing it, private insurance companies are.

Prison inmates get free health care.  So should my family.
