You first want to determine your skin type. For those of us with sensitive skin we may want to avoid products that contain benzyl peroxide or salicylic because they may cause irritation. For those of us with combination or acne prone skin products that contain a mild retinol may be helpful.

Facial Cleansers are great because they are designed for the face. They often are alcohol free and contain emollients that help to keep the skin hydrated that bar soaps lack. You many not be using the right products for your skin. A great line of makeup that works wells for combination or oily skin is the Jane Iredale line. It is available through most dermatology offices. There makeup contains powder, foundation, concealer, and sunscreen all in one. It’s also very water resistant and highly pigmented. It goes on evenly and easily under makeup and contains light diffusing properties that make skin look flawless and healthy. It also minimized pore size and fine lines.
Moisturizers can be tricky. A great moisturizer for your skin type is a product from SkinMedica called Ultra Sheer Moisturizer. It is a light, oil free moisturizer that effectively hydrates skin while antioxidants vitamins C and E protect against free radical damage while conditioning and firming the skin. Getting on a good skin regimen is key to younger looking skin. The first must use product is sunscreen. It is the best way to protect your skin against the harmful UV rays which cause our skin to age. If you are prone to acne you may want to get on a facial cleanser for acne skin and a mild retinol.

Yes the skin on our face has different needs than the skin on our bodies. Facial moisturizers contain emollients that help to keep the skin hydrated.

That depends on the type of acne you are getting. Some adult women will get what we call perioral dermatitis which is adult onset acne that occurs around the jawline and around the mouth. For this type of acne we treat similar to the way we treat rosacea with prescription topical medications. For acne on the forehead or nose using a prescription retinol cream and an acne facial cleanser can help. The best thing to do is see your local dermatologist so they can determine the type of acne you have and recommend an appropriate treatment plan.
