11-pound baby born to mother threatened by usf obstetrician

A healthy baby boy was born Friday to the Spring Hill mother whose University of South Florida obstetrician threatened earlier this week to send law enforcement to her home unless she immediately reported to the hospital for a caesarean delivery.

Lisa Epsteen delivered a healthy, 11-pound boy, according to Farah Diaz-Tello, staff attorney for the New York-based National Advocates for Pregnant Women, which advocated on her behalf.

Diaz-Tello said she understood that mother and baby were doing well.

Epsteen received international attention over the email she received Wednesday from Dr. Jerry Yankowitz, chairman of the department of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of South Florida.

Saying her baby's health was at risk, Yankowitz pushed Epsteen to report immediately to Tampa General for a caesarean delivery. He wrote that he would "hate to move to the most extreme option, which is having law enforcement pick you up at your home and bring you in, but you are leaving the providers of USF/TGH no choice."

Her lawyer called his threat legally and ethically unjustifiable. Yankowitz later sent Epsteen a follow-up note, acknowledging that police would not be going to her home. Physicians scheduled her cesarean delivery for Friday at Tampa General Hospital as she had requested.

What? I can't stand people that feel they can dictate what a woman does with her body. That doctor is ridiculous.
