The City of Urbandale Police Department had this posted on their facebook page and I thought it would be a great thing to share!  Everybody stay safe this winter!!

As our first big snow storm is about to hit us let’s go over a few tips to keep you and your family safe.
1.Distance, Distance, Distance, give yourself plenty of room to stop.
2.Give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.
3.SLOW DOWN!
4.Check your tire pressure. With the temperature drop you lose tire pressure.
5.Get an emergency kit in your vehicle to include, a fully charged cell phone, blankets, candles and some food.
6.If you don’t have to be out driving DON’T!
7.Let people know what way you are going to your destination.
8.Clean off your windows of all snow and ice.
9.Turn on your head lights, so others can see you.
10.Move over a lane when emergency vehicles are on the side of the road.
11.Move over for emergency vehicles if they come up on you with lights and sirens activated.
12.PUT DOWN YOUR PHONE!
13.Buckle up.

Even though these are all common sense it is amazing how many people forget them when we get the first snow of the year

I know! Its like they've never seen snow or ever driven in it! I so hate it when its nasty and people don't give themselves more space for stopping while behind me.

The first snow of the year is always the worst because its almost like people forget how to use common sense!
