20 Fun Spring Outdoor Activities That Don't Cost a Cent

by Mary Fischer

It certainly took long enough, but spring has finally arrived, much to the delight of moms everywhere! After months of being cooped up inside and longing for the temperatures to warm up, our wait is officially over, and now it's time to get outside and have some fun.

Even though the kids are still in school, we still have afternoons and weekends to look forward to, and there are plenty of fun things we can do with them that don't involve the TV, video games, or anything else that takes place in the confines of our homes.

And the best part is that getting some much needed fresh air doesn't have to put a strain on our wallets.

Here are 20 awesome outdoor activities to do you with your kids this spring that won't cost you one cent!

  1. Take a long walk around the neighborhood.
  2. Go for a bike ride.
  3. Fly a kite at the park.
  4. Hit the playground!
  5. Enjoy a picnic with the family.
  6. Explore local hiking trails.
  7. Go on a scavenger hunt.
  8. Play outdoor hide and seek.
  9. Blow bubbles.
  10. Play hopscotch in the driveway.
  11. Literally stop and smell the flowers.
  12. Stare at the clouds and guess their shapes.
  13. Play a game of catch, or brush up on batting skills.
  14. Kick the soccer ball around.
  15. Play tag.
  16. Toss a Frisbee back and forth.
  17. Practice cartwheels in the yard just because you can.
  18. Grab the binoculars and see what kinds of birds you can spot.
  19. Play I-Spy
  20. Break out the hula-hoops and shimmy to your heart's content.

My son and I went on a nature hike Saturday after the rain stopped and it was amazing!  So nice to be out in the fresh air again!

Anything outside. Walks, sitting on the porch, cleaning up the yard, playing with my daughter.

I need to get work at cleaning up the yard from winter.  We have crushed sleds, scarves, gloves...all over the yard!

our yard is a mess too.  we still have snow in the front yard though, so it might be a bit before it gets cleaned up.  it's supposed to rain today so maybe that will help get rid of it.
