How much does something Obama said in 1998 influence you now?

Yesterday was the Romney leaked video today it's the Obama one where he talks about redistributing wealth.

What are your thoughts?

Is a video from 1998 really worth anything when it comes to the election? Do you agree with him?

I think it's important to see where he stood on things and where he stands on things right now.

I'm not a fan of redistributing wealth IF the person who is wealthy earned it, however I do see a reason why we need to help our fellow Americans.

Giving money away to people who sit on their butts all day. Or pill poppers who can't work cause of their addiction. It would be like giving a gold medal to someone who didn't work hard to earn it. Like during the Olympics. It wouldn't be fair. At all!!

Sure, any information on a candidate is "worth" something when it comes to the election.  No, I don't agree with redistributing wealth.  I am not particularly influenced by this video because there is nothing suprising in it, nothing that Obama hasn't made obvious throughout his political career. It wont change my vote, but I didn't vote for him the first time and I don't plan on it this time either.

I don't think it is valid.  It was quite awhile ago.

Pretty sure my views were much different 14 years ago and there is a chance I'm going to learn more and possibly change my views on things in the next 14 years.

What matters is his current stance.

I understand that no one wants to support a free loader and distribute the wealth sounds like giving handouts. That is not what redistributing the wealth means.

What it means is distributing money equally in the government in areas where it is fat and is needed like health care for the elderly, food for the child whos parent is single, military veterans not having to pay taxes, college students being able to get financial aide, help for people making under 20,000 a year.

We are in a recession people are losing their jobs, their homes, their health insurance and cant buy food....these people arent sitting on there butts all day collecting.....they need help.

I absolutely agree.  My taxes are an investment in my government.  So I expect the money I and others contribute to the government via taxes to be redistributed in sucha a way that it aptly covers the general public's needs.

Of course, some people will hear this and think "OMG!  He's a Communist!  He's a Socialist!  RUN!"  That is not what he is saying.  He's saying that government needs to be doing a better job determining where our tax dollars go.  They need to cover more public services that people actually use (education, housing, etc).  I couldn't agree more.

It would. I don't agree with wealth redistribution. It's like giving half of the Ants food and home to the grasshopper who danced the whole summer.

This isn't news.  He has never hid the fact that is he for redistribution of wealth.   I work, I haev always worked and paid my fair taxes.  I got good grades, got a partial scholarship to college based on my grades, i worked 30 hrs per week while in school, and left my sad depressed hometown to go to a bigger city with more opportunities.     I have worked very hard to better my life.    My issue is that the govt  (state, fed and local) have NOT been good stewards of our tax money.  So, if Obama's idea is that I need to give more of my hard earned money to the govt so they can provide more services - no thanks.  I gladly donate to may favorite charities and believe in helping out my neighbor, but I do not want my earnings to go towards a lady who repeated has kids she cant afford, to the drug addict who refuses help, to the high school dropouts who refuse to try to better their get my point.   What is the motivation for anyone to work hard, make money only if it will be taken away to help those who refuse to help themselves??
