The sister of a girl that my DD was in kindergarten with and is in her Daisy Troop was burned.

Lorton Girl, 7, Burned by Gasoline Fire, Medevaced to Burn Center

Victim's injuries "life-threatening," according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

A 7-year-old Lorton girl received life-threatening injuries Saturday afternoon when she was burned in a gasoline fire in the garage of her family's home, according to Captain William Moreland of Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

The emergency call to 911 came at approximately 5 p.m. Saturday, Moreland said.

Due to her injuries, the child was medevaced by a Fairfax County medical helicopter from her home on the 10000 block of Old Colchester Road to the Burn Center at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, according to Moreland.

Moreland said he did not yet know exactly how the incident occurred. "I don't have all the details on that, to the actual action itself," he said.

Patch will update the story as more information becomes available.

About Mary Cox's Burn Recovery Fund

This ribbon was created by Jennifer Phelan on October 22, 2012

On October 20th, my niece, Mary Cox, sustained second and third degree burns to over 40% of her body. Mary was transported on October 21st to the burn unit of Shriner's Hospital for Children in Boston, Massachusetts via a medical airplane. She is currently in a medically induced coma and on a breathing machine. She is listed in critical condition.

Mary's father, Steve, is currently in Boston with Mary. Pam, Mary's mom, will be flying up to Boston on weekends to be with Mary. Mary will be at Shriner's for AT LEAST a month. She has multiple surgeries, skin grafts, and a long recovery in front of her. This fund is to help Mary's family afford the trips to Boston as well as other out of pocket medical expenses.

Thank you for your donations and please keep Mary and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
