Natalie Portman, Frances Strickland to speak at local Obama event

By: Kendall Herold, kherold@wcpo.com

CINCINNATI - Actress Natalie Portman and former Ohio First Lady Frances Strickland will speak in the Tri-State on Wednesday at the Obama for America's Ohio Women Vote 2012 Summit.

The event will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal.

Organizers say the summit will provide women with the opportunity to hear how President Barack Obama supports women and their families.

With early voting starting in two weeks, Ohio is sticking to its reputation as a battleground state. Both sides of the campaign have visited the area recently.

President Obama spoke in Eden Park on Monday. Last week, Republican Mitt Romney campaigned in northern Ohio and vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan stopped in Clermont County. Also, Vice President Joe Biden returned to the Buckeye State last Wednesday for a campaign visit to Wright State University in Dayton.

Portman may be a Hollywood actress, but she also has ties to the Tri-State. The Oscar winner's grandmother lives in Hyde Park.

The event is free and open to the public, but officials urge participants to RSVP here (http://goo.gl/R523F) .

Doors open at 10 a.m. The event starts at 11 a.m.

Do you think it is important for women to hear how the President supports them and their families?

Would you attend an event regarding women issues, hosted by women?

My husband is a huge Natalie Portman fan.   I think as a woman I want to hear what his thoughts are on women's rights, issues that concern us, etc.

Yes, it's very important for women to hear how the President supports us, and I definitely would attend an event about women's issues that was hosted by women.
