What do you do when your computer starts running really slow?  Do you have a computer repair person, fix it on your own, buy a new one, etc.?

We have a guy in town that we have taken it to before but it is way slow again and I don't know what to do. Anybody know how to clean it up here at home?

Back everything up on the external hard drive and clean out everything we don't need.

Can you tell me how to do that or is it hard?

Are you current on updates? Do you have an antivirus software?

Yes we have the anti-virus software that the tech guy told me to get last year and it automatically updates and I always see the message pop up that it has updated so I don't think that is the problem although I don't know for sure.  I am just wondering if the files and stuff need cleaned up.

We move important stuff to the external hard drive and then reformat.

I have a computer savvy friend that, when he's not busy, fixes things for me! He fixed my internet tonight!
