To get the natural dyes, boil a large handful of an herb or flower until the water is well colored. Place the water in a heat resistant glass cup or mug (or other non-metal container). Stir in 1 tsp of vinegar and a pinch of salt, and place your hard boiled egg into the mixture (gently, of course). It will take a bit longer for the color to take. Here are just a few options for making natural dyes.
Yellow-carrots, turmeric, fenugreek, white grape juice
Orange-Onion skins, paprika
Red-red onion skins, madder root, cayenne
Red-Violet-purple grape juice, red raspberried
Green-carrot tops, bracken
Blue-blueberries, red cabbage, black raspberries
Blue-violet-blackberries, beet juice, mulberries
Pink-heather
