Our son who's three picks out his own clothes and dresses himself. However if he looks particularly crazy I will ask him if he maybe watches to change. His shirts are hanging organized by color so he knows to match his pants to his shirt.

When they were small I picked out their clothes, then as they got older I taught them how to mix and match, and then they could do it on their own.

I give my dd a few options and she can pick from them.

My youngest daughter wear uniforms to school but when she's not in school she picks out her own clothes. She's 9 and match her clothes together pretty well.
