Dr Oz: Goat Milk Increases Longevity
Have you ever heard of Blue Zones? They are the areas of the world where people are living longer than others and there is even one in the United States. Dr. Oz and his guest, Dan Beuttner, shared some of the secrets to defying age in thaese areas of the world. Find out how you can live longer, too!
Dr Oz: What Are Blue Zones?
Explorer Dan Beuttner traveled the world to areas known as Blue Zones. These are defined as areas where people are living longer than anyone else in the world. They are geographically and demographically defined as Blue Zones because people in these places are living an average of eight – 10 years longer than we are and they are avoiding diseases like heart disease and cancer.
Dan explained that they basically have what we all want; they live long and die quickly, often in their sleep. There are a handful of Blue Zones in the world, including one in the United States in Loma Linda California.
Dr Oz: Lactose Intolerant? Drink Goat Milk!
Dan Beuttner, author of The Blue Zones, is revealing the newest Blue Zone he recently discovered for the first time on Dr. Oz’ show. It is a place called Ikaria. Ikaria is a Greek Island in the Aegean Sea with low rates of heart disease and cancer and the people are three times more likely to reach age 90.
Goat Milk – Goat milk is one of the secrets of living a longer life for the people of Ikaria. Goat milk is high in calcium and potassium and it also includes a “happy” hormone called tryptophan. The key is to drink about four ounces of goat milk every single day in order to get the most benefit. As an added bonus, if you are lactose intolerant to cow’s milk, Dan Beuttner said you can drink goat milk with no reaction.
Dr Oz: Drink Red Wine To Live Longer
Another Blue Zone where people are living longer than other people in the world is Sardinia. Sardinia is an island off the coast of Italy and men who live there live the longest of anywhere in the whole world. Sardinia is also the home of 10 times more centenarians than the U.S. One of the age-defying secrets of Sardinians is one you might want to try!
Cannonau Red Wine – Explorer Dan Beuttner said that Cannonau Red Wine is arguably the best wine on the planet for longevity because it has the highest levels of polyphenols of any wine. Polyphenols are full of antioxidants that are wonderful for your arteries. Sardinians start their day around 10 in the morning with a small glass of Cannonau Red Wine then they have another with lunch, another at happy hour and another with their dinner. The important thing to remember is that they are drinking very small glasses so at the end of the day they have consumed the equivalent of 2 “regular” glasses of wine. Dan said you can find Cannonau Red Wine at your local retailer for about $16.
Pecorino Sardo Cheese – This cheese is another secret to how the people of Sardinia defy aging. The biggest reason is because it comes from grass fed sheep’s milk, which makes this cheese high in Omega 3 fatty acids.
