Bieber Backs a Debit Card for Teenagers

Posted by   + Show Post

SO I see an article on Justin Beiber advertising a not so new product. This is for prepaid debit cards that have certain restrictions/limits available to be added by parents. I personally give my children cash, but what to you think? Is a pre-paid card you can track a good way to teach kids to manage their money?

It is a better idea then a personal credit card.

I think it is a good idea to be able to teach ... how to save and spend responsibly

Yes! I think they use terms most people won't understand too

Quoting chattycassie:

I agree, I think the pre-paid cards have too many fees and hidden cost.

Quoting arpazia:

Um, I don't think it's a great idea.
Heck, I don't think adults should have them!

I think once they start working it would be a good place for their paycheck to go. I know KMart either gives you a debit card like thing or you have to have direct deposit.

It could be good for gas money when they are old enough to drive as well.

I'd rather hand my 16 year old a prepaid card with $50 on it for him to get gas than give him my card.
I think teens should learn with and user real money as well, but i feel like when my kids are in their teens, 10 years to go, cash won't be something lots of people carry.

Canada already got rid of their Penny.
