The happy birthday song is now offensive?????

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post

Yesterday was my Dh's birthday and we went to Olive Garden. When it came time for dessert, the waitress brought out an ice cream sundae with a candle in it and encouraged us to sing.  In the past a lot of the staff came out to sing. We later asked why and she said that a while back someone wrote the corporation saying that they were eating dinner there and were offended when the staff came out singing. It seems their particular religious beliefs didn't allow these type of celebrations.
I was stunned.   Thoughts?

That's ridiculous! It's not as if the song was being sung to them. :/

Then don't go out to eat. Don't spoil everyone else's beliefs and fun.

This is just another example of people's ignorance. One person wants to cry about something and ruin it for every one else.

I have heard that the birthday song is copyrighted and therefore restaurants can't sing it. I have never heard this excuse. Hmmmm... maybe that is why the waitress didn't sing a birthday song to me at Applebees this year.

I respect the fact that some people don't observe birthday celebrations but that shouldn't spoil the fun for everyone.
