Why were these kids even out at this time of night?

Here recently two 14 year olds hit by a car while they were skate boarding to a gas station to get some snacks.  This occured at 12:30 a.m.

I realize that the person who hit them is most liketly to blame but I can't get over the fact that two 14 year olds were out after midnight, riding skateboards, getting snacks.  The newspaper's website has gone crazy with opposing views. Where were the parents of these kids?  Does anyone supervise anymore?

Very sad that they were hit. I agree that they shouldn't have been out that late

That's sad they got hit. Are the kids ok or did they pass?

Maybe they snuck out? I could be wrong. If parents think their kids are sleeping, at their age they don't think to check on them.

I wasn't out that late until I could drive.  I definitely don't think 14 year olds should be going to store at midnight.

How sad! They should have been home, not riding skateboards in the dark.

I would not allow my child out at that time of night to go to the store. I feel the parents are partially at fault.

What if they snuck out after the parents were asleep.  It happens all the time.

Then it is the children's fault. They knew not to go out and did anyway. It is sad they got hit and the driver is at fault for not stopping but if they had stayed put they wouldn't have been hit.
