Cat mom's - IV at home?

Posted by   + Show Post

Has anyone ever given their cats IV fluids at home?

Our 16 yr old cat is not doing so well. We took him to the vet yesterday but they didn't find anything.

He's not eating very much and hardly drinking.  They gave him IV fluids yesterday and said they can actually have us do it at home.  Just curious how hard it is to do it.

Our feed store sells them.

Quoting ablackdolphin: Really? Where do you get the vaccines?

Quoting cabrandy03: Nope, I have not but we do all our pets vaccinations at home, I can't imagine it's very different.

I'm sorry your cat is not well, I don't have any experience with an IV for a cat.

Thanks ladies! I did get him to drink some water mixed with soft food juices yesterday. I am now feeding him or trying to each time I see him out. About 4 times a day. He got sick once yesterday but that is much less than late last week which is good. He ate more yesterday than Mon or Sun so hopefully he is back to normal! So wish they could talk!

No I have never did it I would imagine as long as they show you how to do it shouldn't be that hard they would prob pt the needle in for you and you would just have to change the bag
