I try not to let them  look at the news and we talk about safety

keep in mind that a month or so ago we woke up to 3 police cars (county, village, state), lab techs etc... a total of 7 cars across the street.

I went digging online and finally in the state police blotter online found out what was going on... drugs, and child porn. the CP charge stemed from there, but was acutally someone with a different address.

However, this is a house that in all 11 years we have lived here we have avoided like the plague. Even with the sister taking the house since the original owner passed on.

    Quoting elasmimi:

I wish I lived in a community like this.

    Quoting Mom2jngnc:

    I am in the minority.
It is not something that concerns me.

My sons ride their bikes around the block, they bike to the fire house, to friends houses, they walk to school. They play in our partially fenced in back yard, usually with the black lab.

We know most of our neighbors, we are involved in our community. We have extra sets of eyes watching them. We have gotten phone calls "John, 2 of your boys are running down main st." Which was "yup, passing you now, they are trying to race Steph and I over to their Aunt's house."

    I still interrogate them!
They only  get into cars with people I approve!

I don't do enough to protect my kids.  I'd like to think I live in a good area but I know we have our crime too.

We live on a dead end road and are the only house.  My son goes in and out as he pleases and he is only 2.  I am usually outside with him or I'm looking outside every 2 minutes when I can't be out there.

When we go shopping my 2 year old just tries to run around the store and sometimes out into the parking lot.  We are working on this and that terrifies me because he could easily run out of a store and get hit by a car or have someone grab him.  I've actually had people who stop and keep and eye on him when he gets around a corner before me.

I'm trying to teach my kids to be aware of their surrounds and what to do if someone tries to take them or asks them to get in the car.  I do think I'm overprotective and watch them when they play outside.

I try not live a life of fear. We go over safety rules and enjoy life. We live in a small area with little crime.
