    Agreed.

The same way my parents kept me safe. I make sure the kids know where they live, know how to spot everyday danger, how to ask for help, have access to a phone (and know who to call/how to use it), and are capable of basic self defense (and when to apply it).

We don't like to watch the news all the time in our household just the fact that it is mostly bad stuff going on...makes you depressed. If the kids ask us about things that they have heard we will talk about it.

    Same here

I talk to my dd alot about this. When I was growning up 30 years ago we actually had a girl from my school, who was walking to school, be kidnapped, brought to a barn in the middle of nowhere, raped and left. She walked to a farm and called her mom at work. This is a small town and things have been happening here forever so yeah my dd and I talk alot. We have many many rules about what she can and cannot do.

Sometimes we have to put our faith in the teachers when they are in school to keep them safe.

My oldest has a cell phone, which I make him keep with him at all times.. He keeps his eyes and ears open and doesnt hesitate to call or text me if I am needed.
