I have a few questions for you..all'. Okay we do not own a track and thus far we have held one Derby Race and borrowed a two lane track. This year we have the opportunity to borrow a NEW (4) lane  track. Well we got a call back from the offering Pack Cub Master and he wants to rent it for 25.00. Fair enough I think. Well my Cub Master got a little bent out of shape and thought it should be a free...borrowing like last year. ARGH! Anyhow I am not in the mood to deal with Derby Track Issues year after year.

1. Do you own your track?

2. Bought it? Where? How much?   OR   Did you have it built?..again how much?

3. Where do you store it?

4. Do you lend your out?

5. ANY Input would be great!

Our old pack ( we moved up to boy scouts in Feb) owns an old 8 lane track that was built by 2 dads,  I believe about 13 years ago. Because it is stored under the stage at our elementary school, a couple of the lanes were a little warped so they were raising funds this year for a snazzy new one. Sorry dont know the cost.

I think it would be fair to rent it out considering that is wear and tear on their track and they are taking a risk lending it out. We lend it out only to the girl scouts because there are always parents and leaders with both cub scouts and girl scouts. Also, the girl scouts hold their PWD in the same cafeteria where it's stored.

Wow an 8 lane track! That's huge! Mine is a 4 lane wood one and I thought that was big lol!

i got mine from the original pack that was at our school in the 90's. They just gave it to us for free when we reopened the pack in 06. It is not in the greatest shape, but my hubby and I puttied it and painted it. I also redid the spongeboard the cars hit at the end too so it looks pretty good now. See before and after pics below.

A new metal one costs alot! I would see if someone could build a wood one for you. We store ours in our garage. I am the committee chair so I keep it with me. It has 4 pieces that are 1.5' x 8' in size. So it stands up in a corner of my garage. We throw it in our jeep and live 2 min from school so its easy to transport. We have never lent it out since no one has asked. I would say I would lend it though, but since I am in charge of it, I would have my hubby set it up, we would run it at the race, then take it down so no one but us touch it. Just because if it does get broke, they would not have the money to fix it so why risk it ya know?

Here are some websites that are selling the metal ones:

I just typed in Pinewood Derby tracks in my browser and tons of places showed up. There is even plastic tracks hmmm....

Here's my pics! Good luck!!!
