As much as I talk about being active, I need to stress that rest days are important. Once upon a time, I would aim to work out seven days a week, and would average six days a week. That's a little bit nuts. My body needs time to rest and recover.
My workout routine right now is to run three days a week, attend a strength class two days a week, and rest the other two days a week. Now, "rest" days will often involve family activities like a bike ride, but it's at a leisurely pace, as opposed to running 7 miles.
I make sure that one of my two days "off" involves no exercise whatsoever. I will read, I will play chess with my kids, I will sit down and write posts (Hi!).
