Just thought Id share my crazy happenings with you guys...
I had been a bit sick for a few days with a stomach virus or something...wasnt really keeping much down. I got very dehydrated. (Didnt know it at the time) I was sitting outside on my back steps talking on the phone. I was feeling okay for the most part, but the next thing I knew..I woke up on the ground face down. My glasses were broken, my face was scraped up beyond belief, I had dirt all in my mouth. It was crazy. I have no memory of falling or anything. Just one minute I was sitting on the step and the next I woke up on the ground. I was very disoriented and confused and for some reason got hysterical about where my daughter was. She had gone to a friends house to play and I guess for some reason I thought she had been gone longer than she actually had.
Anyways, I go in the house screaming for my husband to go find her and when he got up and turned the light on to where he could see me, he was shocked to see that I was bleeding all over the place. My face was so scraped up, I was bleeding from my mouth and nose. He sent my son to get my daughter so I would calm down and then he got me all cleaned up and I took some pain meds because my back/neck was super sore, and then I laid down and went to sleep.
The next day I was still feeling pretty bad, so I had him take me to the ER. I told them exactly what happened, that I had passed out, etc. They decided to draw some blood and do a CT of my head since I lost conciousness. My husband piped up and mentioned that I had been complaining about my back/neck hurting, so they said they would CT that as well just to be sure it was okay. We waited for a while and the nurse comes in the room with a neck brace and said the doc would be in to explain things in a few minutes.
So the doc comes in with this shocked look on his face and says..."Adrienne you literally broke your neck, the C6 vertebrae in your neck is completely broken!" I was like..."Are you kidding me?" He says.."No, you have to see a neurosurgeon." I explain to him that I dont have insurance to make an appt with a specialist. He tells me, "No, you dont understand how serious this is, Ive already called a larger hospital, they have a team of doctors waiting for you..you have to go NOW. We are sending you by ambulance." So, they loaded me up in the ambulance, hit the lights and sirens and hauled butt with me to a hospital an hour away."
I was kept over night and was seen by the neurosurgeon the next day. Im now in a lovely neck brace for the next few weeks. He says he expects it to heal on its own and he doesnt see the need to do surgery on it. So, Im doing okay! Just super sore and tired of wearing this neck brace, but certainly thankful that it wasnt worse and I didnt end up paralyzed!
