The Sun will Come Out

The sun has always been an important symbol in my life. On bad days, I often remind my kids that “the sun will come out” and tomorrow will be brighter. It's become something of a running joke for our whole family as - eternal optimist that I am - I find myself drawing sun images on lunchbags and even creating artsy sunshine bentos for guests. I'm a California girl through-and-through, and I believe that some warm rays can improve a person's outlook in a hurry!

It makes me happy to know that my kids have a strong visual image that reminds them of me and helps them keep their chin up. I think this is something that's true for a lot of families. Lighthouses remind me of my aunt, who collects miniature figures of them as a reminder of hope. My mom finds meaning in the symbolism of lion figures, feeling empowered by their show of strength. A dear friend of mine even collects cow ornaments, as she finds them to be a steady and calm presence.

Is there a symbol or icon that reminds your family to look on the bright side?

DH makes the heart symbol with his hands to the girls.  At home, during school plays etc.  So I guess it would be that.
