Hi I am very new to the digital scrapbook world.  I recently say the creative memories software in action and it looked pretty cool.  Do any of you use it, and if so what besides the main software would I need to get a good start?  My husband recently went to Germany for work and came home with 500 pictures and would like a scrapbook done.  I have been doing paper for about 10 years but thought about doing that one digital.  Help Please!!  Thanks in advance!

  • I strongly recommend going digital, but NOT with the CM software!  Here's why:

the photo industry is deeply invested in Photoshop - it's the gold standard.  There is an inexpensive version Photoshop Elements (version 8 came out this week) that is VERY fully featured.

    1. Once you learn PSE, when you're ready to move up to the full program you'll already pretty much know how to use it.  You won't have to start from scratch.

    2. it's FAR easier to get help - not only can you take advantage of tutorials and classes for digiscrappers, you can find them from the graphic design, web design, and photography worlds, so there's a lot of great resources out there for help.

    3. There are FAR more add ons for PSE - shapes, brushes, filters, styles, actions, etc.  You eventually will see something someone else did, and not be able to do it because CM won't support those things.

You can get a 30 day free trial of PSE at Adobe. com, and I have a 'your first layout' tutorial on our site www.scrappersworkshop.com.  So give that a whirl before you invest your valuable time in learning CM, then decide you need to have PS instead and have to start over!!

  • I have just started using the Digital Scrapbooking program that is available from Stampin' Up!  It is totally awesome!  Someone mentioned to go with something that works with PSE and this does.  You can transport the elements in and out of the software.  The software is available to the general public on October 1.  The name of the program is My Digital Studio.

Here is a video that you can watch about the product:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiFODLCkvLk

I have made some pages with this software and you can find them here:  http://www.stampinsandy.com/my-digital-studio/

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask!
