Scared about trying for another child?

Hey everyone! I know that this isn't that active of a post but wanted to see how everyone else felt on this subject. My DS is 4 now and doing great with his clubfeet. But after my delivery with him and not knowing he had clubfeet or what it was scared me. I hate to see any child go through that, even though it is correctable. My DH and I are wanting to try for another child but I am scared this one will have it too! My first son was healthy with no problems and of course my 2nd had severe CF. Should I be concerned since dr's can't say for sure if it is hereditary?

It is genetic, for sure. The chances depend on how many other family members (aunts uncles grandparents cousins) that have had clubfeet too. For my family the geneticist said I have a 50 50 chance with each pregnancy. I had 4 kids and only one with clubfeet, severe bilateral, for the last one. It wouldn't stop me from having a baby although we know it is difficult and stressful to correct.

agreed!! very stressful... see heres the thing i find strabge about clubfoot... my niece is the ONLY other family member, besides my daughter, that even my grandmother knows of that has the club foot. but yeah i heard that it is hereditary

It's not always genetic just so you know it can be caused by medications that your taking also by the position of the baby inside you so it's not always genetic

With the right treatment there should be little to no discomfort for the baby. It is just a little time consuming at first. Don't let that keep you from having more children. The baby wouldn't know any different and if it did have CF it's older sibling could relate to that baby and share a special connection. I say go for it, CF babies are healthy, and it shouldn't rule your family.

I agree 100%.  When we found out we had another baby on the way, my granny would say, "I hope this one is a girl.  Don't they say girls are less likely to have clubfoot?"  And I always said, "granny I don't care if this baby has clubfoot.  We know how to deal with that, and there are a lot of babies born with worse things."

So let me ask...what exactly are you scared of?  Matthew was never bothered by having clubfoot - he actually sometimes puts his shoes on by himself (we have to redo them because he doesn't buckle them tight enough) and always wants to click his bar in.

Ok, well, its been a while since I posted this and yes I am now pregnant with baby #3. It isn't that I am scared just a lot to put a child through. I thank the Lord above for doing what he did for my son and giving the knowledge to those who know how to treat it. My DS put his shoes on himself to and did't have that much trouble either. I have since come to find out that within by ObGyn speciality group my DS was the only case known that the u/s tech ever missed for clubbed feet. And she is great at it! Derrick was "severe" and we did go to Shriner's for treatment; which is 5 hrs away. Just a lot of finanical hardship. Very thankful to family for their support. Now that we know what CF is it isn't that bad but just a concern. But, we are all very excited about this next child. Oh, also my Mom was adopted so we really don't know of anyone who had CF in our families....? But again, Thanks very much ladies:-)
