Would you ever pay extra for a private room?

Would you pay more to have a room to yourself? How much? Does your hospital offer private rooms, or are they more first come, first serve?

I won't have to thankfully, I'll get one automatically for having a C-Section. Nothing about my birth or antenatal care costs money, woohoo to socialised healthcare. :)

I'm having a c-section...so I already get to have a private room. But if I had to pay for a private room I would definitely pay for one.

My hospital gives all laboring mom's their own room with a private bathroom and shower and you get to stay there the whole time. No moving rooms for or after delivery. Your room is your room for your entire stay.

Like above my hosp only has private rooms with a shower/tub and bathroom. You never have to move until you are discharged.

If they didn't I would pay extra to not have to share.

Our local hospitals all work the same way. When you check into L&D you are put into 1 room. It is used for your birth, and your recovery stay. They each have a jetted tub, shower and private bathroom, along with a sink and fridge, and a TV with DVD player. The c-section rooms are different only in that instead of a jetted tub, they have a zero depth (you don't have to step into anything) rainwater shower that is gentle on your c-section incision.

They are ALL private.

ETA: We actually pay completely out of pocket for a home birth because there is nothing that beats just being at home.
A hospital birth would be 100% covered for us.

So I guess technically I do pay more for more privacy.

I've always had a private room. They used to have some double rooms, but would never double up unless they were really busy and out of room. They redid the floor a few years ago and now they are all private rooms.
