We just adopted a new puppy and I need to get him house trained asap (I am almost 30 weeks pregnant and want him trained before the baby gets here) I have been trying to keep him on a schedule so that I can kind of predict when he will need to go out but he still has accidents every once in a while, which is not good for my nesting ;) Anyway, please give me all the tips you can!! Thanks ladies!!
try to take the puppy outside every hour or so & he will eventually learn to go to door when he needs out. for the times in between we buy the puppy pads & train them to it. good luck & congrats on the new puppy.
This is gonna make me sound like a nut,but I would take the puppy & put him on the pad & kinda push his butt down & make a pisses sound & say go pee pee here. Then if they didn't use it while inside I would take them to the wet spot, put their nose in it say no & take them to pad say here! If they pooped inside & not on pad I would put the poop on the pad & show them here this is where you go. Or you go outside! most times it took putting poop on it so they knew there they weren't going to get in trouble, because I would act like they did it & say good dog!
Once one of my cats helped pad train a pup. The cat kept watching me like I was going to let the dog go in the litter box & the cat started peeing on the pad! The pup started watching the cat & said This looks fun to me, if the cat can i can.

Crate Training has worked with all six of my dogs.
Crate the dog when you can not supervise it. Let him out the crate every hour or so and take him outside. Praise him when he pees or poops. Don't forget to catch the behavior. When he pees say "Go Pee" and when he Poos say "Goo Poo". That makes them relate what you are saying to what they are doing, so eventually when you say "go pee" they will pee automatically (or within a few minutes).
But what happens if they do not go to the bathroom outside?
If they don't go outside then you bring them inside and put them back in the crate. Take them back out 5-15 minutes later and they will probably go. If not it is back in the crate for them until they empty themselves outside.
This worked in a week with my dogs.
And please no puppy pads or newspaper. Those contraptions just teach dogs that it is okay to pee and poop on your floor. If you have already used them then take them outside and make him pee on them outside.
