PIOG... caileigh's crusade to find adn build handicap friendly playgrounds!
A little info on why I am doing this... I emailed this to the parks and rec. here in my town as well as the mayor.
I am the mother of a beautiful 5 yr old little girl who suffers from muscular dystrophy. We are Woodstockians residing in Alta Ridgewalk and hoping to make Woodstock our long term home... HOWEVER, the downfall to the community is the lack of handicapped accessibility. I may just not have found it yet but we cannot find a handicap friendly park. We frequent the park in Bollinger I believe off of old hwy 5 across from WM. My daughter cannot play on that because she struggles to climb the stairs and it's just more work than it is fun. Quit devastating to tell your 5 year old she can't go to the park because it is dangers (she could fall trying to climb the stairs). The sadness in her eyes when we tell her we have to stay home or we can but all she can do is swing... horrible. Making her feel incapable due to the fear she could cause more harm than good, no parent should have to burden a child with that.
Does Woodstock have any plans to create a handicap accessible playground? Does Woodstock already have one? Is there any hope my daughter can go to the park and have fun like the other children? Thank you for reading this and forwarding it to the appropriate party if you will. I just want my little girl to have fun and feel like the other kids versus sit on the sidelines and watch them have fun.
If you live
in a community that is free of handicap playgrounds let's make strides
to change that. Let's ensure that even children suffering from
disabilities can have fun but more than that have fun safely. I don't
want to know that another mother has to tell her young one that they
can't go to the park. It isn't that sweet babies fault, it's just the
way it is. Please forward this to whomever you know. Have them email me
at:

I want this to change. If a community can have 22 playgrounds at least one can be handicap accessible. So let's contact mayors across the country, parks and rec. and whomever else we can to get the point across that handicap children and healthy children deserve the right to be children! Thank you for reading, forwarding, and making a change for the kids! :)
PLEASE: If you forward this email no and get a response about change... PLEASE let me know. Send me all of the info regarding the change so I can follow the hardwork and progress! God Bless! :)
My daughter has limb girdle muscular dystrophy. She may waddle, she may fall, but she is not ignorant. She sees you stare. She hears you snicker. Her heart aches like mine and yours when people laugh at her. Be polite and ask about her condition rather than be rude and make fun of her. Please educate yourself, as I can only educate her so much about ignorance and stupidity. I can only tell her so much about just how cruel the world can be.
