Do You grow basil, or buy it fresh and can't use it all at once? You can freeze it. Remove all the leaves from the stems. Wash and thoroughly dry. Lay a length of wax paper, about 3', on the counter. Spread the basil leaves on the paper in a single layer, leaving the last foot of paper empty. Now begin slowly rolling the paper up from the filled end. It's important that the leaves stay in a single layer, so be careful. Roll the last foot up to seal the package. Put the roll in a plastic bag and then store in the freezer, When you need it to cook with, simply unroll enough to expose a few leaves, roll the paper back up and return to the freezer. Much better than using dried basil.
I haven't tried others yet, but I don't see why it wouldn't. I have always chopped herbs, add to an ice tray with a little water, then when frozen, pop them out and store in a zip-lock freezer bag. If you don't have a ice cube tray, just use freeze in the zip-lock bag and then you can break off what you need.
