Although I usually grab a toothpick for this, I received a small wire cake tester as a gift and have found several other uses for it. It's great to unplug the top of the salt shaker. You can also easily retrieve that last small pickle or olives from the jar. Also good to use to testing vegetable to see if they're done, without breaking the food apart.
I've never seen a metal cake tester, but we do have some cocktail pics that are metal. What a great idea, instead of toothpicks! I never would have thought of it!
Cool...I usually just test cakes with a strand of spaghetti (never have toothpics on hand-lol)
my mom gave me this little "broom" thingy that hangs by your stove to pull off of.
She said long time ago women used broom strands to test stuff...um ewww !!
And these thingy's were "remenicent" of that...I'll take a pic of it and add here later.
That is exactly what they did, but when they broke off a broom straw, they used the "clean" end, not the one that they swept with. Still, don't think it was probably that clean, but hey, no one died from it.

Pampered Chef makes a metal cake tester. I have one and love it!
