Hey ladies, I'm pretty new to freelancing and I'm curious what some of you charge as an hourly rate. I have a company that I've done some work for before, a quicky rush job for their catalogue and after scouring the internet somehow came up with the price of $70 an hour for the project.
Well the company has come back about possibly having me write a proposal with the potential for more work in the future, but they wanted a lower price since the accountant nearly had heart failure when he wrote my last check.
I don't want to price too low, but I admit my last price was a little on the high side and this is a smaller company so I'll have to cut it substantially to hope for more work from them.
Someone suggested $25 might be a good start, but that seems really low to me. I'm leaning towards $40, but honestly I have no idea what the local market is.
Any suggestions?

Tell me more about the type of work you'll be doing for them. It really depends on the work as to what is a reasonable rate to charge.
Also if you know you'll be getting regular work for them charging less than you would for a single job is reasonable because you'll be working more often and end up getting paid more. (Make Sense?)
