Ok well im so excited that im in my 3rd semester now. I am enjoying it very much! In my program there are 5 semesters so I will graduate this december. This semester is all about pregnancy, pediatrics and womans health. I was wondering if anyone else is doing this and how much they like it? Also, I was considering not doing 1-2 yrs med/surg after graduation and just going right into postpartum or labor and delivery or something like that because I really do not like med surg at all, what do u ladies think of that?

Life is what you make of it....move past the statistics and barriers that people place in your way...and when you do....don't say a DAMN thing..because they can see SUCCESS written all over your face...-philly

I did OB/Peds last semester and I'm in my last semester now. I enjoyed peds better than OB. We had 6 weeks rotation OB and 6 weeks Peds at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. I love the kids but don't like to work with the mom's in labor. :-) Glad you're having a great time!

I'm in my 3rd semester now as well, but the program I am in is 4 semesters. I'm doing Peds/OB/Mental Health this semester (5 wks of each). I got stuck with Mental Health for my 1st rotation. But I'm thinking about becoming either an L&D RN or a Peds RN. My goal is to become a NP of one of the two. I'm debating whether or not to do 1yr in Med-surg because I really do not like either,  but right now I am working as a unit secretary on a med-surg floor and I know all the nurse and the how the system works. They said I have a job waiting for me when I graduate in December but like I said I'm not sure. I really do not like Med-surg! My heart is in OB or Peds. I have less then a year to make up my mind!! Lucky me!! If you truly know that you want to stick with OB, I say go ahead and go straight into that!! Best of luck!!!

I am in my third semester as well, but unlike you lucky ladies I don't get the option of not being able to take Med-Surg later. My classes right now is Peds, for the first 6 weeks and then we go straight into Med-Surg for the remainder of the semester. I am really enjoying the peds portion so far, but unfortunately we won't get to do a rotation in peds. All of my clinical time this semester is for Med-Surg.

Good luck to all of you.

I am in my 3rd semester as well. I'm glad you are enjoying your semester. I however am not! I am in cardio and resp. I don't think that it is the class I mind, it is my instructor. It is only 8 weeks though then I get to go into OB as well and I am looking forward to that!

I had that rotation around this time last year.  I really enjoyed it because I got to spend time in different departments.  I especially liked working in the high-risk pregnancy unit.  I learned so much from the nurses there.  I also enjoyed the post-partum unit because I got to take care of the mothers and their babies.  Hopefully I will get into some aspect of that field, I worked in an OB/Gyn office for 9 years, so maybe that will help a little.

I did maternity last semester and I really enjoyed it alot and found it to be a bit of a breather from the other semesters. There were only 2 exams and a final in the 6 weeks that we were in it. I'm in the last semester right now and I must say, I don't think i'm gonna like it!!! lol
