I went to eat lunch with my 6 year old at school today. While there, my 2 month old got hungry. So I nursed her. I did it in a way that nothing could be seen. None of the kids even noticed. Well, the principal came over and asked me to go to the conference room. I said I was there to be with my son and the baby was done. So I tucked everything away. The principal told me to think about the other children. The other children? What I was doing that would harm the children? They couldn't see anything. None of them were paying me any attention. They were eating. What's the big deal with me feeding my baby? If I was a bottle feeding mother, nothing would have been said. (I am not against bottle feeders) It just burns me up that she said to think about the other children. What was so horrible about me feeding my baby? I might could see her saying something if I was flashing my boob around, but I wasn't. Grrrr. Why does society think its such a indecent thing? I'm a breastfeeding mom, but my kids know that babies can be fed with bottles, too. Why can't bottle fed kids know that some babies eat mommy milk? The look that woman gave was one of pure distain. Like I'm some monster for feeding my child in public. Sorry, I just needed to vent. Thanks for listening. angry

She probably just jumped on you about it without really even seeing you until the end. I say if your discreet about it, not a problem. I've seen many women that are not discreet and it's a bit shocking. I don't even think that babies need to be covered up while nursing, but mothers still can do it in a way that doesn't expose... which you've stated you were. My foster son's birth mom nurses very openly. Funny story was when there were all women in my living room having a meeting on my foster son's case. All women minus the one social worker that was a guy. We all knew that the birth mom (who is a refugee from Burma) was nursing her 3 year old daughter. All but the male social worker who sat closer to the birth mom so he could show her some paper work (she doesn't read any English, let alone speak it). He jumped sky high about 10 minutes after he sat next to her when the little girl pulled away and sat up. He never knew she was nursing until then! Super funny!
VERY rude of her. You have nothing to be ashamed of. She obviously lacks tact.
I would have been very annoyed. I homeschool so i don't have a school to deal with. I think i saw another story where the mom called the paper & there was a nurse in outside the school. The principal apologized.
I may have told them no, i know in my state moms are allowed to bf anywhere the mom & baby are allowed to be. I would have stood by it. & pressed the principal. I can get that way with some things. lol :) Bfing is one of the best things you can do for you kids & soo many in US have such a stupid way of thinking about it. I bf anywhere but i do cover up, i just feel better that way. I have had people comment on how it is such a great thing to do for my baby. :)
Sorry to had such a bad experience w/ it. I hope she educates herself about nursing. some educator! lol!!
