20 Cleaning Hacks to Try Now

1. Remove paint from fabrics and even your clothing by taking a shaving razor to it. Gently slide the razor over the paint until it loosens up and wipes away clean.

2. Clean grime on cabinets and cupboards by wiping it with a little vegetable oil. Just apply, scrub, and rinse clean.

3. Use vinegar to clean burnt pans. Simply add a cup of vinegar to the pan and heat it on high. Bring the vinegar to a boil, reduce heat, and then wash as usual. The pan will sparkle like new.

4. Use a lint roller to clean odd shaped accessories such as lamp shades and blinds. You can also use a lint roller on furniture and fine area rugs to remove pet hair. Grab a few rollers at your local dollar store so you have one on hand.

5. Clean a dirty oven by placing a bowl of ammonia inside. Let it sit overnight, then wipe clean. Repeat if needed or if the oven is especially dirty.

6. Rinse your make up brushes and hair brushes with baby shampoo to clean away build up. Just wash, rinse, and let air dry.

7. Ball up some tinfoil and use it as a scrubber on your dirty glass baking dishes. It will work great at powering away baked on grime.

8. The best way to clean and sanitize your cutting boards is to soak them in bleach. Just fill the sink with water, add two cups of bleach, and allow them to soak for about 60 minutes. This is especially wise to do if you used your cutting board to cut raw meat.

9. Toothbrushes can be used for cleaning all sorts of small spaces. Try scrubbing away tile grime, kitchen knobs, and odd shaped bottles with them.

10. Use chalk to soak up grease stains. Got a grease stain on a shirt? Gently rub the chalk (white chalk works best) over the spot, allow it to sit and absorb the grease, and launder as usual.

11. Clean exhaust fans with keyboard cleaning spray. Just spray away any dirt, dust, and debris.

12. Get gunk off your food graters with a raw potato. Just grate the potato and the hard starch will grind away the gunk and debris caught in it.

13. Wash away lipstick stains with a little hairspray. Just spray the stain, let it sit, and then launder as usual.

14. Clean leather furniture with shoe polish in a matching color. It will make the furniture shine and even hide scuffs.

15. Use steel wool to clean hairspray and gunky styling products from your curling and straightening irons. Just wipe the appliances gently and see the gunk get buffed away.

16. Add a little baking soda to stained coffee mugs. Make a baking soda and water paste, scrub, rinse, and repeat if needed. Your mugs will look like new. You can also do this to your coffee pots and get the same results.

17. Cut your sponges and Magic Erasers into four sections. This will help you clean smaller areas and also make the sponge/eraser last longer.

18. Place a few drops of essential oils in your vacuum bags and canisters. This will help freshen up your space each time you vacuum.

19. Adding a few drops of peppermint oil to your cleaning products not only smells great but can help repel mice and spiders.

20. Save citrus peels so when you garbage disposal needs freshening up, all you need to do is toss one in and turn the disposal on.
