Hypnobirthing self preparation?

Good Morning Ladies!!

New to the group and very excited about my plans for a natural birth.  I'm 19weeks pregnant and due in late September.

Has anyone had experience in hypnobirthing?  And did you prepare yourself or attend classes?  I am attempting to do self preparation but I'm honestly having a hard time doing all the exercises that the book I have recomends :( Is this bad??  Did you practice a lot or a little and how did your birth go?

I've had a very extremely hectic pregnancy so far and it's kept me unbelievably busy.  I've had a ton of issues w/ the babies father and we are no longer together.  Which also meant that I had to move, and am still working on getting settled in my new place... this takes so much longer when you are pregnant!! And I work full time. LOL  Anyway life has just been hectic and I'm worried that maybe I've gone too long w/o practicing their techniques that it might not go as well as I had hoped... and just looking for others advice/experiences :)

Thanks for taking the time to read!! :)

You can only do so much, but the more time you can devote to labor preparation (of any sort) the better.

Do you have help & support?   A doula?

You have lots of time still - I didn't start the hypno birthing till about 32 weeks and have been practicing it since.  I find the best practice is using the breathing whenever I feel any kind of pain or stress and each time it gets a bit easier.  I did classes because I learn much better from hearing than reading and my husband attended too.  But all the info in the classes was in the book too.  Except there were some good videos they played in the classes - if I can get a link for them I will post it for you.

Oh that would be awesome, thanks!!  I do have a doula as well, she's actually my best friend of 12 years so its working out great!!  She hasn't done a hypnobirth yet either but does have one coming up before mine :)

I've done each and would recommend a class-helped my confidence so I knew I could do it with ds2. I love hypnobirthing but I don't lay around. I walk and do what I feel I need to do

Ok, so from the mouths of my instructor, and from me...  Definitely attend the classes, with a partner, who will be in the room with you when you deliver...  Do read the book, however, don't hang on every word of the breathing exercises.  Think of it this way, if you're so deeply relaxed and in self-hypnoses- you won't be able to count different types of breathing.  ABSOLUTELY listen to and repeat your affirmations on the CD, and PRACTICE your Rainbow relaxation once everyday leading up to the birth.  I started doing this with my three between 20-26 weeks, the sooner the better.  And once you get the hang of doing these relaxation techniques- the more they will benefit you.  I did Hypnobirthing with all three!  It's amazing!!!!

I agree, I moved alot!  Different stages required different positions and activities.  Hands and knees, tub, walking, birthing ball- but with each I was so in the zone, and in deep relaxation.

Hi again - here are those links.  The first is a news report about hypnobirthing but does have video of one at the end.  The other two are both hypnobirths and waterbirths so that might not be what you are looking for but - just in case...
