She'll come to you at home in early labor to work with pain-coping, resting, eating, and getting to the hospital. At the hospital, the doula will stay by your side as nurses & doctors come and go. You'll always have this person there with fresh ideas & tricks up her sleeve.
She also knows how to help the daddy-to-be get involved. The doula can show him when to push on certain points or how to "be there" & stay strong next to his woman.
A doula can be the liason/go-between when hospital staff are rushing/bullying/pushing/confusing. A doula can stand gaurd outside the bathroom as the mom & dad shower together for 90 minutes~ for peace, quiet, and privacy. She'll help mama through the delivery and after~ to get settled and nursing.

I just have to say from personal experience that having a doula just eases your mind, and your more likely to believe and or listen to a suggestion they have because they are female and most have birthed before, unlike your hubby/SO who you will tell is full of crap if he suggests something lol
