They were concerned about the baby not getting enough oxygen and csections werent very common back then so the doctor told the nurse to help her push
She said the nurse literally jumped pounced on to her stomach and the baby shot right out!!!
How could that not hurt that baby!?!?!
My aunt went through something similar. She said that the baby was stuck and the next thing she knew the largest nurse she'd ever seen came waltzing through the door and starting pushing down on her stomach. The baby came out and was ultimately fine, but I don't think it was something that should ever be done IMO!

My son was stuck in my rib cage, literally stuck, I was 10 cm and he was WAY up high in the uterus, we tried pit even really high, had already tried walking and everything. Doctor said if i would get the epidural she would try something similar to a turning of a breech baby...I saw in an ultrasound his foot and knee were caught front to back in my rib cage.. I got an epi, 10 min later she climbed on top of me and pushed, he popped loudly and his head came out NO pushing.
The way she explained it is this should only be done by someone training to turn babies and only IN an OR or with an OR ready..which it was ready and across the hall, just in case theres an issue.
Sounds like shoulder dystocia, especially if baby was out enough to be compromising breathing. That's pretty standard procedure for hospitals to deal with it-they push hard enough to get the shoulders to shift and come out, if that's what it was the next step if baby doesn't budge is they break baby's collarbone to get the shoulders to fold in. This is the big fear with most OBs and big babies which is why they do scheduled c/s for it-rather than let the woman labor in different positions :/
