I am putting together a presentation for my company and I just wanted to share some of these interesting facts with you all.

Food & Pesticides:
The Environmental Protection Agency has approved over 350 pesticides to be used on our foods.
Strawberries are the worst, with 300 lbs of pesticides per acre of plants.
New research shows pesticide exposure to increase ADHD, thyroid disorders, Parkinson-like disorders, reproductive problems, and cancer.
USDA found residues of 1 or more pesticides, on %70 of fruits and veggies.
CDC found pesticides in blood and urine samples of %95.6 of 5000 Americans over the age of 6 tested, with higher levels being in boys (Possible link with rates of ADHD being higher in boys).
Organic is expensive, but so is being sick.

Household Chemicals:
84,000 chemicals are allowed in the USA, and 700 are added EVERY YEAR.
Of those chemicals, 60,000 are "grandfathered" in the the EPA and are considered "safe" but have never been tested.
Chlorine is the number 1 cause of poisoning in children in the U.S.
150 chemicals found in our homes are associated with allergies, asthma, birth defects, cancer, and psychological disorders.
Stay-at-home Moms have cancers at higher rates than women who do not work in their homes.
90% of poison exposures happen at home.
Air pollution is typically 2-5 times higher in our homes than outside!
1/13 children now has asthma, and in children under 5 rates have increased 160%
CHILDREN ARE THE MOST VULNERABLE, POUND FOR POUND OF BODY WEIGHT THEY EAT MORE, DRINK MORE, AND BREATHE MORE, SO OBVIOUSLY THEY HAVE HEAVIER EXPOSURES.
Children also do not store toxins in their fat as adults do, so it is thought to be more readily available in their systems and affecting them.
Triclosan is added to anti-bacterial soap, and when this is combined with warm water, it creates a carcinogen.
Please visit ewg.org/cleaners/hallofshame to read about the worst household cleaners.

Nutrition:
2/3 people need to lose weight due to health conditions.
1/2 people will die prematurely due to being overweight.
The number of overweight children, has doubled in the last 10 years :(
French fries are the #1 source of vegetables in children.
Almost %70 of 19-24 month olds eat candy or dessert on any given day.
Cookies, hotdogs, and rolls, are among the top ten foods fed to infants and toddlers.
After the age of 65 you will likely be on at least 8 different medications, and the #4 cause of death is now prescription medications. Usually given properly.
90% of Americans are lacking key nutrients in our diets.

All of this is plain scary, and women like you should be confident in your choices to be more natural. Do not be discouraged, when MIL thinks you are crazy and overprotective, you are doing the right thing. We need to protect ourselves and our children. I hope that you learned something new.

Exactly. Medicines willl only put a band-aid on the problem, and you must continue to take them, it will never likely heal you. Also in the process it will start to affect other parts of your body negatively, which in turn will lead to more medication. If you can help your body heal itself with proper nutrition, and vitamins, and minerals, many, people have been able to live longer & healthier lives.

Thank you.  I love ewg.org, I'll look at epa too :)

Quoting SAHM927:

Most of this is written by the EPA (environmental protection agency) but I actually got it directly from a registered dietician. You can also check out ewg.org they talk about a lot of this. Both are very credible sources. :)

Where did you get all of these statistics?  I would like to share
with my family but they are so close-minded I have to give references...
